4.5 stars. Been well over a decade since eating here, but it was lunchtime when my co-worker and I were passing through so Country Tavern it was for lunch! Brittany was great during the entire service and made sure our drinks were topped off and everything was good. The ribs were as good as I remembered along with the sauce too. Prices though were stiff. $23.99 for a two meat combo platter with upcharges for ribs (+$1), brisket (+$1), and mac 'n cheese (+$0.25) sure put a damper on the warm Texas welcome this place once had. Overall, an enjoyable lunch though expensive ($70 with tip) but solid food and excellent service saved the day. Definitely try this spot out at least once if you're looking for BBQ and history.
Excellent BBQ ribs, brisket, and turkey. Tender, juicy and a lot of flavor. Spicy Mac and cheese, cucumber salad, and and potato casserole were the best. Definitely going again!
Food was very delicious! And they had friendly staff! Their turkey was so good. It's the best I have ever had so far! ❤ I had the 3 meat plate with the amazing ribs and very good brisket! Potato casserole and beans were also very good! What can I say, everything was superb!
Great food. Baked potato casserole was amazing and the turkey was heavenly! My daughter had some brisket and she now wants that for dinner every day! The spicy Mac and cheese is a good twist on a classic favorite. Love that they bring out warm hand towels after for you to clean up with! Our waitress was great! The inside is very loud and very dimly lit, so people with poor eyesight (like me) be careful! They don't have an actual menu, the server just tells you what they - KISS method, they don't have a wide variety but what they do have they make damn well! Worth the wait and the cobbler is to die for!
Had some awesome ribs here, the food was excellent!! Service was a bit slow (40 minutes to be served at lunch) and the room was dark. Overall good experience and will be back the next time we are in town.
We found this gem en route to our daughter’s game at UT Tyler! SO glad we stopped on our way home…excellent and well priced for the amount of food! Ribs-excellent! Brisket-excellent! Jalepeno sausage-excellent! Potato casserole-excellent! Spicy Mac and cheese-excellent! Cucumber salad-good, potato salad-didn’t like it. Worth a stop! We eat at a lot of bbq places and this one would be top 5-8!
BBQ can be a controversial topic; how long to smoke, what kind of sauce, or sweet or savory. Country Tavern will make you a believer in a quality BBQ. From the chopped beef sandwich to the jalapeno mac and cheese, everything is worth trying. They have a variety of sides that most BBQ restaurants do not, which I found very refreshing. They have one BBQ sauce that is phenomenal, if you can get past eating the meat without it. The ribs are fall off the bone and the turkey is one of the juiciest we've ever had. Make sure to come hungry because the portions are also very generous. #GoogleGal
Just tried this place yesterday. I have tried all the bbq places in Tyler and haven’t liked any of them . I am always comparing the brisket to Hutchins Bbq in McKinney . And this restaurant has amazing brisket!!! . This will be my go to place now and definitely worth the drive !
Best ribs in East Texas. Busy night on a Monday before Christmas. Katie was great got drinks and food order in right off. Love the place .
